FAQs

What’s the difference between Skin Milk Udder Cream and Full Cream Moisturiser?

Our Skin Milk Udder Cream is a lighter formulation made with Sweet Almond, Olive and Rice Bran Oil as the nourishing oils in our formula. Our Full Cream Moisturiser is a thicker and creamier formula made with Sweet Almond, Olive and Coconut Oil as the nourishing base to this cream. This provides a bit more hydration and protection for dry skin, particularly in the winter months or those who suffer from extremely dry skin. Both contain Milk Protein which has found that it helps to increase skin elasticity by up to 20% and can be applied all over the body from your face to your feet.

Why is Skin Milk Udder Cream popular for radiation therapy?

Skin can react in a variety of ways after undergoing radiation therapy, including itchy, flaky, red, swollen, tight, dry, rashes and blistering. Our Skin Milk Udder Cream is a lightweight formula that suits all skin types and can be applied to skin with all these symptoms. When caring for skin during and after treatment, we think it’s best to look for natural, gentle, hydrating products that aren’t loaded with too many ingredients as the skin can be hypersensitive during this time. You should also try to avoid any products made with cheap preservatives like Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, as well as penetration enhancers, phthalates etc. Of course, we don’t use any of these ingredients. Our Skin Milk Udder Cream is made with nourishing oils like Sweet Almond, Olive and Rice Bran Oil, as well as Aloe Vera to provide soothing relief to inflammation, and the Milk Protein helps to restore and rebuild skin elasticity.

FAQs

What other MooGoo products do you recommend for irritable skin?

We recommend using this product on affected areas and in conjunction with our Soothing MSM Moisturiser to soothe and moisturise the skin. Apply the Sensitive Skin Balm first and allow it to soak in for 2 minutes. Then apply the Soothing MSM Moisturiser over top and anywhere else you like for some added moisture and TLC. We also recommend using a gentle cleanser like our Milk Wash to help keep skin happy and hydrated by not stripping the natural oils which can cause dryness and irritation.

What ingredients do you avoid when making a moisturiser?

There’s lots of things you won’t find in this cream (or any of our other products) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. This includes Paraffin and Mineral Oil which derive from petroleum, but are commonly found in commercial moisturisers like Sorbolene. We don’t think putting the stuff that goes into our cars on our skin is the healthiest thing we can do.

We also don’t use any synthetic preservatives such as Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, although they’re pretty common too, including with a few brands that claim to be natural (you know who you are!). We avoid a lot of other things too, way too many to list here. We also don’t use any useless, trendy ingredients like stem cells from Swiss apples or super power jellyfish DNA, just natural, effective ingredients for healthy skin.

FAQs

What other MooGoo products do you recommend for irritable skin?

We recommend our Soothing MSM Moisturiser, which you can use in conjunction with our Eczema Cream. Apply the Eczema Cream on the patches of eczema and the Soothing MSM Moisturiser over the rest of your face and body for some extra TLC. Continue to use it in between flare-ups as your daily moisturiser, to help keep skin soothed, and hydrated. Remember, well-moisturised skin is less likely to become irritated.

We also recommend using a gentle cleanser like our Milk Wash or our Cleansing Bars to help keep skin happy and hydrated by not stripping the natural oils, which can cause dryness and irritation. ** What ingredients do you avoid when making a moisturiser?**

There’s lots of things you won’t find in this cream (or any of our other products) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. FAQs

What is MSM?

Methyl-sulfonyl-methane (MSM) is a natural source of organic sulphur. Think of it as the glue that holds together our amino acid chains, aka the building blocks of all tissues. We love this mineral not only because it’s naturally abundant in the human body, but because when applied in a moisturiser, it benefits all skin types in so many ways. Its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties help skin prone to conditions like eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, rosacea, acne and dryness, or even if you’re just a little on the sensitive side.

Can I use this moisturiser when my skin flares up? Or do you recommend something else?

This moisturiser can be used any time when your skin is behaving and also when it’s having a breakdown. When times are tough, we recommend using this in conjunction with our Eczema & Psoriasis Creams (Aust L 196718 / 196727) to soothe and moisturise the skin. Apply the Eczema & Psoriasis Cream first to the affected areas and allow it to soak in for 2 minutes. Then apply the Soothing MSM Moisturiser over top and anywhere else you like.

MooGoo Fast Hydrating Lotion
Fast Hydrating Lotion

Designed to quickly replenish skin that’s seen better days and help restore it to its former glory.

Description
  • Dermatologically Tested & approved for sensitive skin
  • Clinically proven
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Quickly replenish dry, dull skin that’s seen better days
  • Fast-absorbing and enriched with skin-loving natural oils and soothing ingredients
  • Nurtures and improves hydration of delicate, damaged and sensitive skin
  • Made with natural, skin-loving oils like Sweet Almond & Olive Squalane
  • Made with Aloe Vera and German Chamomile to help keep skin cool, calm and collected
  • Ideal for dry or sensitive skin. For use on the face and body. Suitable for all ages

We made this moisturiser after getting a lot of requests from our customers and stockists to add a light(er)weight formula to our moisturiser range. Our classic Skin Milk Udder Cream has generally been our suggestion for those looking for an all-round restorative cream, but it seems that there are many people that prefer something even lighter, particularly when dealing with thin, very sensitive or damaged skin. Heavier creams are great to deeply nourish, nurture and protect dry skin, but they can also take a little longer to apply, especially all over the body on a regular basis. Since we make our products for our customers, we were happy to take on the task of creating a lighter formula, and we’re pleased to introduce to you the time-saving lotion we wish we’d made years ago.

But don’t be fooled into thinking that lighter means less because this lightweight is no lightweight! Made with our favourite, moisturising oils that skin slurps up, and we didn’t skimp on the skin-soothing ingredients either, making sure to include as much Aloe Vera and German Chamomile as we could to help keep skin cool, calm and collected. And to top it off, we made it subtly smells like a delicious dessert, but we don’t recommend eating it – but if you did, it’s A-OK as we only use natural and edible ingredients in all of our formulas.

Ingredients

Aqua (H₂O’s Fancy Name), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Stearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol (Plant-Based Emulsifying Wax), Ceteareth 20, Niacinamide, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera), Glycerin, Glyceryl Monostearate, Squalane (Olive), Piroctone Olamine (Olamine Salt), Allantoin, Bisabolol (German Chamomile), Mel (Honey), Sodium Dehydroacetate, Fragrance (Phthalate Free – Vanilla), Sodium Citrate, Pyrus Communis (Pear) Fruit Extract, Acetum (Apple Cider Vinegar), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Citric Acid (To Balance pH).

Because we make our products for our families, we have a strict ingredient philosophy that excludes ingredients like Parabens, Phenoxyethanol and penetration enhancers.

We show all of the ingredients we use in our products on our website, not just the pretty ones. That way you know exactly what’s in each one, and can get in touch if you have any more questions.

FAQs

What skin type is your Fast Hydrating Lotion best for?

We always make our products suitable for all skin types, and this is no exception! Heavier creams are great and have their place, but they can also take a little longer to apply, especially all over the body on a regular basis. It’s perfect for those times when you get out of the shower and need to moisturise, get dressed and get out the door ASAP, and it’s also perfect for the squirmy little ones that won’t sit still. Because it rubs in so easily and absorbs so quickly, we also think it’s particularly suitable for those with sensitive and fragile skin, or those going through radiation treatment because application is so gentle.

What makes this different from our other moisturisers?

The biggest point of difference for our Fast-Hydrating Lotion is in the name – it absorbs quickly into the skin! This is due to the change in the ratio of emollients/emulsifiers and the concentration of lipids in the formula. The shift in ratio causes the formula to be lightweight and not require much work to rub it into the skin.

What’s the difference between a lotion and a cream?

The main difference is the texture and weight, with lotions being traditionally lighter and thinner than creams. A lighter moisturiser is great for those that prefer something a little more convenient and timesaving as it rubs in quickly and easily. Its lighter feel also makes it more convenient to use on warm, humid summer days.

How much Niacinamide is in the FHL?

Our Fast-Hydrating Lotion includes 2% Niacinamide. Niacinamide has multiple benefits such as improving blemish-prone skin, replenishing dull and dry skin, as well as soothing sensitive skin. It also helps with decreasing water loss, brightening pigmentation spots, and stimulating collagen synthesis, just to name a few.

Why is it only available in a 500g pump bottle?

Usually, we launch a smaller size first to encourage the trial of a new product, but buying in a larger size is more cost-effective, so as we’re all looking for ways to budget our bucks these days, we decided to bring out a bulk-size 500g pump bottle first and not hold off on giving you the best value for MOO-lah. This comes in handy when shopping for the whole family, so now there’s enough for everyone. The pump top is also easier for the little ones to use themselves.

How does it compare to your Full Cream Moisturiser, Skin Milk Udder Cream and Soothing MSM Moisturiser?

We made this moisturiser after getting quite a few requests from customers to add a light(er)weight formula to our moisturiser range. Our silky Skin Milk Udder Cream has generally been our suggestion for those looking for a versatile all-rounder, but it seems that many of you want something a bit more on the lighter side of things. The moisturising oils in this formula were selected specifically because they’re lightweight as this helps them absorb quickly into the skin. Our other moisturisers contain a different mixture of hydrating oils, each combination catering to a different skin concern such as restoration, deep hydration, soothing sensitivities etc. Heavier creams are designed to deeply nourish and nurture dry skin, and even create a barrier of protection to bolster skin barrier function.

I can’t seem to get all of the product out of the bottle with the pump? Why is this happening?

To get your hands on the last bit of product in the bottle after it can no longer be pumped, simply turn the bottle upside down and allow the product to make its way to the top of the bottle with the help of gravity. Now when you unscrew the cap, the product will be there ready for you to use and enjoy as needed. We use bottles with pump tops instead of jars as we find this to be a much more sanitary delivery system.

MooGoo Deodorant - Lemon Myrtle
Fresh Cream Deodorant - Lemon Myrtle

Healthy Inside-Out. 100% Aluminium-free.

Description
  • An aluminium-free, roll-on, natural deodorant
  • Free of aluminium due to our concerns about aluminium in antiperspirants
  • Slightly alkaline formula prevents odour causing bacteria from growing
  • Free from over-powering essential oils that mask odour and can cause irritation
  • Made with Milk of Magnesia and a light, fresh Lemon Myrtle scent
  • Naturally preserved with Hops Extract – free of Parabens and Phenoxyethanol

Most antiperspirants work by clogging pores with Aluminium salts. Aluminium in our armpits? No thanks. We feel that aluminium belongs in our roofs, not under our arms! Our formula works by allowing perspiration (which is odourless) and controlling odour causing bacteria. No bacteria, no smell.

We are proud of developing this unique formula in Australia. Bottled in a 60ml roll-on to make it easy to apply. We hope you enjoy the peace of mind doing something healthy for your body brings.

Ingredients

Aqua (H₂O’s Fancy Name), Magnesium Hydroxide (Milk of Magnesia), Xanthan Gum (Food Grade Thickener), Piroctone Olamine (Olamine Salt), Backhousia Citriodora (Lemon Myrtle) Leaf Oil, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract.

FAQs

Do natural deodorants work?

The confusion here seems to be endless. The answer is, well it depends. In comparison to antiperspirant products, which just like the name implies are anti-perspiration, then no, ours doesn’t work. The reason for this is because it’s a deodorant, which means it deodorises. No natural deodorant is an antiperspirant because ingredients that stop you from sweating by clogging your sweat glands contain aluminum, and putting aluminum under your arms isn’t exactly the most natural thing in the world.

Whether a crystal, a paste, or a roll-on like ours, the effectiveness of a deodorant is how well it controls your smelliness. Specifically, we use an alkaline formula to control odour-causing bacteria from throwing a party (no bacteria = no smell), but others like to use essential oils. We’re just not that into smelling like a Tea Tree Forest, and essentials oils can sometimes sting the delicate, thin skin of the armpit. You will still sweat – a natural process, and one we prefer not to mess with.

What’s the deal with switching to natural deodorants?

We often hear from customers who start using our natural deodorant after a long history of antiperspirant use. After a few days, some of them get in touch concerned that our deodorant doesn’t work for them, but mostly they’re just not used to sweating at all and think it’s not working. Some of them even let us know that they became really smelly. While this sounds bad, it’s actually a good thing! It means that your sweat glands are starting to detoxify themselves after being clogged up for so many years. Hallelujah! We found that there is a transition period of about 2 weeks as the body adjusts to the glorious new freedom of natural deodorant. We found that using our Gentle Exfoliating Micro Powder as an ‘armpit mask’ a couple of times a week helps with this detoxification. Simply mix water with the powder to form a paste, apply to underarms and wait 5 mins before hopping in the shower.

What happened to your original Fresh Cream Deodorant?

When adding more scent options to our Fresh Cream Deodorant range, we added a notation of the scent ‘flavour’ to the front of the bottles. For our original Fresh Cream Deodorant, we added the scent name to the label to make sure everyone would know what it is since it’s not the only choice anymore. The scent of our original Fresh Cream Deodorant is Lemon Myrtle! Nothing has changed about the formula, so no worries there. It’s still the original, effective formula you know and love, and still in the pretty blue-green colour. Who doesn’t love a makeover!?

Is this product made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are made with milk. If you think about it, putting any meaningful amount of fresh milk into a cream and then putting it on a shelf in a store for a while would not end well – yuck! We do use ethically and sustainably sourced Milk Protein from a credible Australian supplier in a some of our skincare products because research has found that it helps to increase skin elasticity by up to 20%.

If you want to know more about the Milk Protein we use, check out the General section on our FAQ page for more detailed information.

My new roller-ball is stuck and won’t spin – is this normal?

When you first receive a roll-on product, sometimes you may notice the roller boll is a little stiff or won’t move at all. This often happens because of the very cold temperatures our products are either stored in or transported in. Air freight containers can get below 0 degrees sometimes! Getting your roller ball working is easy: simply run the top of your product (with the roller ball) under very warm water. This will loosen the ball and get things ‘rolling’ again.

If you live in a place with fluctuating temperatures or just very cold winters, you may have to do this every so often!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your moisturisers made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our moisturisers are made of milk. If you think about it, putting any meaningful amount of fresh milk into a cream and putting it on a shelf in a store for a while would not end well – yuck! We do use ethically and sustainably sourced Milk Protein from a credible Australian supplier in some of our skincare products because research has found that it helps to increase skin elasticity by up to 20%.

I see fragrance in the ingredients list, what is the fragrance exactly?

When it comes to fragrance, in the past we tried to keep our products fragrance-free as many of our customers were allergic to them. At the same time, the overall response from our customers is that they prefer our moisturisers with a subtle fragrance. To do this, we had to make sure that the inclusion of any fragrance wasn’t going to compromise the gentleness of our formulas. The main concern with most fragrances is that they’re often made with phthalates. Of course, we don’t use these in our formulas because they’re well-known to be irritating to the skin, often causing dryness and itching. Instead, we use a blend of non-irritating, hypoallergenic fragrances that are suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Each part of this fragrance blend is below the EU’s allergy threshold, and we have used it in many of our products for years now without any reactions. The fragrances we use are proprietary blends from a company we work with, so unfortunately, we cannot reveal their exact details. Think of it as our top secret, reaction-free recipe!

Are your moisturisers suitable to use on the face?

In general, most generic body moisturisers are made with very average ingredients to make skin feel smooth and cover a large area (skin is the largest organ). They can also be quite heavy and greasy, so not the most ideal to wear on your face or under makeup. Many body moisturisers are also made with powerful penetration enhancers based on Glycols and PEGs (essentially solvents) that help the cream penetrate the top layers of the skin, so they don’t feel as greasy. We suggest not using any creams that fall into this category, but especially not on your face and the delicate skin around your eyes. BUT, if your body moisturiser is made with high-quality, skin-friendly, natural ingredients like ours are, then YES, they’re absolutely suitable for use on the face, in fact, we recommend it! The natural, skin-friendly oils we use will sink into the skin to quench deep down dehydration, also making them non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t block your pores either.

What does "Dermatologically Tested" mean?

You may have seen the term “Dermatologically Tested” on lots of products before, but did you know there’s not an actual definition or regulation for this term? Because that didn’t sit right with us, and because our aim is to make products for people with very sensitive skin, we decided to send a bunch of them off to be tested in an independent lab on 54 people who reported having sensitive skin. The results were given on a scale of 0 to 5 with 0 being no irritation or redness and 5 being a reaction. We’re happy to report that other than one person who had a reaction to the adhesive on the patch and another who found the patches painful to remove, all subjects reported 0 for redness and irritation for all the products we sent for testing.

I have extremely sensitive skin, will I react to MooGoo?

Everybody is different and what works for some will not for others. Some people have allergies to natural ingredients. A good example of this is that people may be allergic to certain fruits, nuts or milk, but never to synthetic products like Cola. This does not mean Cola is better for everybody; it is simply how the immune system works. At MooGoo, we believe for most people, natural products are better. As with all natural products, we do suggest you patch test first to ensure no reactions.

My child has a nut allergy. Do I need to use nut-free skin care products?

Most allergies to nuts are triggered by nut proteins, not nut oils. But when it comes to allergic reactions many people choose to be extra cautious and avoid anything made with nut oils as well. For that reason we made the Soothing Cream Nut Oil Free to give parents of children with allergies peace of mind.

I am allergic to oats, what products are safe for use?

The only product that you may want to avoid is our Fresh Oatmeal Cleansing Bar, we use Oatmeal for the gentle exfoliating properties.

What is the fragrance you use? Lots of people have allergies to some of the compounds found in Essential Oils, so, a few years ago we began working with a company in Brisbane to supply us with fragrant oils whereby each component was below the EU allergy threshold. These are phthalate free natural fragrance oils.

My cream isn't white. Does this mean it has gone bad?

You may notice that your cream isn’t bright white or changes colour slightly over time. This is because we use natural ingredients which are often rich in colour and can change the colour of a cream after it’s mixed in. Although people generally expect a cream to always be white, we choose not to use any bleaching ingredients to keep them white. So, don’t be surprised if your cream changes to a light tan, pink or grey colour over time, it’s not a bad thing and is perfectly fine to use (always check expiry dates)! It’s also good to note that the colour of your cream may also vary slightly from tube to tube, or bottle to bottle.

I'm Lactose intolerant. Are MooGoo products safe for me to use?

Almost all of our products do not contain milk, except for our Hydrating Cleansing Bars. We do add Milk Protein to some of our moisturising creams and as it happens to be very good for maintaining skin elasticity and for protecting the hair shaft in our hair care products. The protein is not related to Lactose.

My product is a different colour/different consistency to the last one. Has the formula changed?

When working with natural ingredients there can be slight variances from batch to batch that can cause a change in smell, colour and texture. You may also notice changes in colour after having used a product for a couple of weeks. This happens when the top layer of the cream is exposed to air and mixes throughout the cream, resulting in an overall colour change. The product itself is still safe for use.

Is this product pH balanced? What does that mean?

Yes, it sure is! The pH level of our moisturisers is balanced to 5.5, which is similar to human skin. Essentially, pH can be measured from 0 to 14 depending on how acidic or alkaline a substance is. Since our skin sits at a pH of about 5.5, it’s slightly acidic. Healthy skin can retain moisture, maintain a robust microbiome and keep irritants away. We of course want to support this, so using creams that are pH balanced to match our skin is one of the best ways to do this.

Is MooGoo safe to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding?

Absolutely! All our products use natural ingredients that are also generally edible. We do recommend performing a patch test for allergies before use.

Our Eczema & Psoriasis Creams and Nourishing Deep Pore Oil Cleanser do contain Essential Oils which some internet sites do suggest avoiding during pregnancy. However this usually refers to aromatherapy or applying the oil directly to the skin. We only use very small amounts, but of course it is always a personal choice and we recommend to patch test for allergies before use.

Can I use MooGoo on a newborn?

We get this question a lot, and the simple answer is YES! All of the ingredients we use in our products are gentle enough for newborns, but we don’t recommend using our Night Cream or Anti-Ageing products on children. We suggest you always patch test first to check for allergies to any natural ingredients.

Are ALL product ingredients listed on the packaging?

YES! Here at MooGoo we take the “No Gimmick” approach very seriously and believe it is important to inform people what they are putting on their skin. “Therapeutic Products” actually have no requirement to list all of their ingredients, but we do it voluntarily. No secrets here…we are as proud of the back of the bottle as we are of the front.

Where should I store my MooGoo and do your products have an expiry date?

All MooGoo products have an expiry date noted on the label (generally on the back or at the seal), but should last 24 months if stored under 30 degrees, away from sunlight.

Are MooGoo products safe for use after the best before date?

We cannot guarantee the effectiveness of products after this date, however, generally the products maintain integrity well beyond the best before date!

Are your products certified organic?

Our products are made of natural ingredients, but not all of them are certified organic. Organic certification can be very useful when it comes to unprocessed food to ensure it is free of pesticides and not genetically modified. However, when it comes to skin care, ingredients are usually refined in order to draw out the pure oils and other cosmetic grade ingredients. Impurities and unwanted components are filtered out which means they become free of pesticides. Cosmetic grade ingredients, whether natural, organic or synthetic, need to be delivered with purity standards.

We have chosen to focus on natural, edible ingredients based on how much they help the skin rather than whether or not they get the tick of approval by organic certifying bodies. Natural is almost always best in our opinion.

How do you choose your ingredients?

A lot of thought goes into our ingredient choices, but here are a few of the main things we consider:

  1. Use non irritating ingredients. Just because an ingredient is natural doesn’t mean it is always gentle. Many essential oils although lovely, can trigger reactions so we don’t use too many of these. As well as many synthetic chemicals, there is a long list of natural ingredients we also avoid.
  2. It must be as safe as possible if ingested or absorbed. Everything is a poison if you consume enough of it, even water (that’s called Water Toxemia). We choose ingredients that are as edible as possible, using baking soda as the base line for comparison. Most ingredients we use like Aloe, our plant oils, even our preservative system based on Hops are also used in foods.
  3. Effective Ingredients. There’s no point having ‘Green Tea’ in the ingredients if it just means a tiny bit of green tea as it wouldn’t make any difference. Instead we use the concentrated extract. Aloe Vera for example is mostly water. But by using the concentrated extract of Aloe, we can benefit from the full concentration of the good bits of the Aloe plant.
